Delivering Recycled Content & Light-Weighting Potential
DS Containers is committed to sustainability. Choosing the Drawn & Ironed (D&I) manufacturing technology for our aluminum aerosol can manufacturing platform allows DSC to offer customers the option of choosing aerosol cans which will always contain recycled aluminum content.
Our cans are made from 3104 aluminum alloy that we source domestically. This alloy is commonly used in the production of aluminum bottle cans and is readily available.
One of the greatest benefits that our aluminum alloy material brings to customers is the level of recycled aluminum content inherent with this material. DS Containers has achieved an average recycled aluminum content of 50% with the coils we use to produce our cans and we continue to work with our supplier on sustaining this average. This level of recycled aluminum content is a game changer for customers interested in improving the sustainability metrics of their packaging.

Being an aluminum alloy also provides for a stronger input material as compared to the 100% virgin aluminum puck material typically used to produce aluminum aerosol cans. The inherent strength of the 3104 alloy allows for further light-weighting of our aluminum aerosol cans as compared to impact extruded aluminum aerosol cans.
Light-weighting is one of the best ways to improve the environment and economic efficiently of any packaging product. Our D&I aluminum aerosol cans can provide for up to a 20% reduction in aerosol can weights and we continue to focus on our product and processes to improve on these light-weighting opportunities.
